Eritrea has a rich cultural tradition, but the political and economic upheavals engulfing the country at present have made it impossible for children to attend any of the very few existing school facilities, run either by the public sector or the Capuchin friars.
The sustained effort we are trying to undertake is geared towards removing the highest number of children possible from the streets and integrating them into reliable educational contexts. The Capuchin province itself is committed to creating more and more of such structures, thus trying to fill in the gaps that the war has left behind.
ASPE has worked out a program through which benefactor families can send children to the elementary and middle school levels, shouldering the cost of school supplies and contributing to the running expenses of numerous small schools scattered across the country.
